Azure File Share Backup using Recovery Vault

Description: Here I have explained about Azure File share Backup feature on Azure. Different things that we can take Backup using Azure Recovery Service Vault.

File Share Backup

  • First we create File storage account and create File share. Once File share created will upload data  for backup

  • Once your data uploaded we are going to to create Recovery Service Vault. From Azure portal navigate to Recovery Service Vault and Create new recovery vault
  • Once your Recovery vault created open it and click on Backup to create configuration

  • Now select your Backup goal what you want to take Backup. In our case we select Azure File Share.
  • Once File share selected then configure backup schedule and timezone for same and enable backup
  • To verify backup configuration we navigate to Backup Items under Protected Items and click on Azure Storage [Azure Files]
  • Once you click on Azure Storage you will find warning like "Initial Backup Pending" So you can also take backup on demand by click on Backup Now and you will receive notification like backup is trigger now
  • Once backup triggered successfully you will received notification for same
  • For Restore there are 2 options one is Restore Share it will full restore all files and Second one is File Recovery it will restore file which you will select, also you can skip or overwrite existing files on storage.
  • For testing purpose I am going to delete file from file share
  • Now I am going to restore that file from recovery vault and use File Recovery
  • Then select Restore Point and File for restore

  • Once you click on restore it will trigger for restore and you will find file under storage
