Blob storage or Containers in Azure

Description: Here I have explained, what is blob storage, types of blob storage and How to configure it on Azure.

What is Blob Storage?

Azure Blob storage is Microsoft's object storage solution for the cloud. Blob storage is optimized for storing massive amounts of unstructured data. Unstructured data is data that doesn't adhere to a particular data model or definition, such as text or binary data.

Use of Blob Storage:

  • Serving images or documents directly to a browser.
  • Storing files for distributed access.
  • Streaming video and audio.
  • Writing to log files.
  • Storing data for backup and restore, disaster recovery, and archiving.
  • Storing data for analysis by an on-premises or Azure-hosted service.

How to configure it?

  • First create storage account in Azure. To create storage account open Azure Portal and search storage accounts.

  • You can define performance, account type and replication here
  • Public Access and other network settings

  • Settings for data protection

  • Once storage account created, Open containers to create blob storage

  • Give name to container and define public access level to container [Private, Public or Anonymous read access]

  • Once container create you can upload your data to container or blob

  • Once file uploaded you will access using URL

  • You can also manage Blob storage by using storage explorer. You need to download from the link and install it on  your PC
  • Once you install open storage explorer and use public blob storage URL
  • After that it ask for container URL and Storage Name
  • Once you connect it you will able to see container and content
  • Now you can manage container using storage explorer
